Vision Statement

The Tri-Cities Literacy Committee envisions a future where all community members are aware of and have equitable access to timely, adequate, effective and affordable literacy programs. Literacy is a right, enabling individuals to participate fully in our community.

Definition of Literacy

Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. Literacy involves a continuum of learning in enabling individuals to achieve their goals, to develop their knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in their community and wider society. (Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, 2013).
